            Hushtec Brochure

New Zealand’s infrastructure pipeline is busier than it has been in decades. The Auckland City Rail Link — the country’s largest ever transport infrastructure project — is in active construction through the CBD and inner suburbs. KiwiRail is upgrading freight and intercity corridors. Wellington is advancing Let’s Get Wellington Moving light rail and rapid transit plans. Each of these projects brings the same fundamental tension: the need for meaningful noise reduction alongside the requirement to maintain safe, visible working and public environments.

New Zealand’s acoustic regulatory framework under the Resource Management Act 1991 requires resource consent for activities that exceed noise limits set in district plans. The Auckland Unitary Plan (Chapter E25) sets construction noise limits aligned with NZS 6803:1999, while Wellington City and Christchurch City district plans have comparable controls.

              Regulatory Framework — New Zealand

Transparent acoustic barrier installed along a busy railway platform.

              •     Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA): the primary legislation governing noise, vibration, and environmental effects of construction activities. Consent conditions typically specify maximum noise levels at receivers.
              •     NZS 6803:1999 Acoustics — Construction Noise: the technical standard referenced in most district plans. Sets permitted levels for different times of day and receiver classifications.
              •     Auckland Unitary Plan Chapter E25: governs construction noise and vibration in the Auckland region. Standard hours limits are 70 dB LAeq(T); night works (10pm–7am) must comply with lower thresholds or demonstrate mitigation.
              •     Wellington District Plan / Christchurch District Plan: similar frameworks with site-specific consent conditions for major projects.

Why NZ Projects Need Transparent Barriers

Transparent rail noise barrier along an urban transport corridor.

The Auckland City Rail Link passes through live urban environments where pedestrian safety, visual monitoring of work zones, and connection to natural light are design requirements — not just preferences. Transparent acoustic barriers from the Hushtec Vision range allow acoustic compliance conditions to be met while preserving the safety monitoring capability required by AT (Auckland Transport) project standards.

New Zealand’s trusted construction and agricultural clients — including Ballance, Ravensdown, and Fletcher — are already part of the Hushtec network, demonstrating the established supply chain and local support capability.

              Frequently Asked Questions

Transparent acoustic barrier at a modern rail station reducing train noise.

Do Hushtec transparent barriers meet NZS 6803:1999 requirements?

Hushtec Vision 2.5 and Vision 5 are ISO acoustic-tested products with certified STC ratings. Acoustic consultants engaged on RMA consent processes routinely accept ISO-certified attenuation data in noise management plans aligned with NZS 6803.

Can Hushtec supply products for Auckland City Rail Link projects?

Yes. Hushtec has an established New Zealand supply chain and has worked with major NZ contractors and construction companies. Contact our NZ team on 0800 111 783 for project-specific supply options.

What noise reduction is needed for night works consent in Auckland?

Auckland Unitary Plan Chapter E25 sets night-time construction noise limits at 45 dB LAeq(T) at sensitive receivers. Hushtec Vision 5 (42 dB reduction) can make a significant contribution to meeting these limits, especially when used in conjunction with other mitigation controls.

Is MLC suitable for use in New Zealand’s climate?

Yes. MLC is UV resistant, waterproof, and rated for temperatures from −20°C to +60°C, making it suitable for use across all New Zealand climate zones year-round.

Does Hushtec offer supply and install in New Zealand?

Yes. Hushtec offers both supply-only and supply-and-install options in New Zealand. Contact our NZ team on 0800 111 783 or hello@hushtecglobal.com to discuss your project requirements.

As New Zealand continues to invest in major rail and transport infrastructure, transparent noise barriers are becoming an essential solution for balancing construction noise compliance, public safety, and operational visibility. Hushtec’s Vision 2.5, Vision 5, and MLC provide proven acoustic performance to help contractors and acoustic consultants meet the demands of modern rail projects across New Zealand.

              Fletcher

"Hushtec panels are awesome! They helped us better manage noise on site, improved privacy and safety for our crew, and gave us free branding with our logo printed on them. Highly recommend."

              Laing O’rourke

" I used to think noise barrier blankets didn’t work until I tried the Hushtec panels. These reduced our noise on-site immediately, which enabled us to continue works throughout the night on an urgent project, saving our customer thousands and helping complete the project before scheduled. The team is also very knowledgeable and helpful, couldn’t ask for more. "

              JK CIVIL

"We recently installed the Hushtec EchoShield Wall around a large generator compound, and we couldn't be more impressed with the results. The EchoShield system was by far the easiest noise reduction system we've ever worked with-quick to assemble and straightforward to install. Beyond its ease of use, the performance has been exceptional. It achieved an impressive 31dB noise reduction from our containerized generators, far exceeding our expectations. The quality and effectiveness of the EchoShield Wall have set a new benchmark for us in noise control solutions. We highly recommend Hushtec for any project where noise reduction is critical."
